Boulder Beach Campground

Updated: Feb 23, 2023

We arrived at Boulder Beach Campground on January 25, 2023. Boulder Beach Campground is located just outside Boulder City. It sits next to Lake Mead, and the border of Arizona is just minutes away. The campground is in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Boulder Beach Campground is easily accessible by big rigs. The campground has large, level, paved sites that come with picnic tables and fire rings with grills. The campground has no hookups but does have water spigots (potable water) located throughout the campground. They do have running water and flush toilet restrooms but do not contain showers. The campground does have an RV dump station. (If in need of full hookups Lake Mead RV Village is next to the campground)

We stayed in campsite 83D and had pristine views of Lake Mead. Our campsite was surrounded by beautiful vegetation. Throughout the campground there are mature palm and cottonwood trees. The weather was awesome. The highs were in the 60s and the lows were in the 40s except a couple of nights when the temps dropped in the 30s and covered the high mountain peaks with snow. The snow-capped mountains were breathtaking to the scenery of Lake Mead.

River Mountain Loop Trail is solely for walking/biking. This trail is very close to the campground and runs 34 miles. You can take this trail to the Historic Railroad Trail and to the Hoover Dam. We didn’t get to do this bike ride due to being sick and colder temperatures, but this is definitely on our list for when we return.

Below is a map of the River Mountain Loop Trail. Pink X is where the campground is located and the yellow highlight is the River Mountain Loop Trail to the Historic Railroad Trail to Hoover Dam.

**If you have dogs beware of the coyotes that roam the campground and stalk your dogs. On many occasions we had coyotes stalking Cocoa (our Shi-tzu), waiting for him to go out. Make sure you keep your dogs on a leash.

Places we visited during our stay at Boulder Beach Campground:

  • Las Vegas – Around 30 miles – Visited the heart of the Vegas Strip. Had a hard time finding a parking garage that would fit our truck, so we found valet and let them deal with the parking. The smell of pot overcame the streets and casinos. A must see is the Fountain Show at the Bellagio. Went to the Flamingo Hotel and Casino (one of the oldest properties on the strip) to see the Flamingo Habitat. Big disappointment - the Flamingos were nowhere to be found. The Flamingos were removed due to the “bird flu”. I did enjoy walking through the “garden”. I also lost a little money in the casino at the Flamingo. “The Strip” has lots of dining options, shows, shopping, and of course slot machines, games, and lots of opportunities to blow your money. We did eat at Café Americano at the Cesars Palace. The food was just good, but the truffle fries were amazing!

  • Hoover Dam – About 7 miles. Hoover Dam holds back the waters of the Colorado River, creating Lake Mead. We drove across the Dam. This was something you don’t want to miss if you're in the area.

  • Valley of Fire State Park – About 58 miles – We loved this park so much on a whim we decided when we left Boulder Beach Campground, we were headed to Valley of Fire State Park for a week.

** Pictures will be under the Valley of Fire Blog
